Things You May Need to Keep in Mind When Taking Magnesium Supplements: 1.Forget About Calcium: This leads to the pulling of magnesium by calcium thereby limiting its absorption. Allow calcium to be taken at different times with magnesium at least two hours apart from it. 2.Leave Out Zinc: Excess dose of zinc may hinder the absorption of magnesium. Administer them at intervals of four hours short of each other. 3.Dismiss with Iron: Just like zinc, this metal affects the absorption of magnesium. Similar to zinc, it should be separated by a minimum of four hours from iron. 4. Leave Out the Foods with Phytic Acid: Phytic acid, which is derived from foods, prevents the absorption of magnesium is found in foods such as whole grains, legumes, nuts, spinach and chocolates. Again, for at least four hours after eating a serving of the particular foods, ensure that there is a four hour time gap between the taking of the magnesium and the food.
